Manufacturers frequently announce "new" diaper rash creams that have fancy names, pretty containers, and high prices. Unfortunately when we check out what's in the cream, we find that they have ingredients that actually cause skin problems and are carcinogenic (cancer-causing)! One "new" cream contains "zinc oxide, petrolatum, mineral oil". According to the book "Beauty to Die For", zinc oxide is carcinogenic, mutagenic, and toxic. Petrolatum is a highly comedogenic (acne producing) petrochemical which may contain 2 well-known carcinogens, benzo-a-pyrene and benzo-b-fluroanthene. Mineral oil is a petrochemical by-product that prevents the skin's natural respiration process, is extremely comedogenic, and may contain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) which is mutagenic, and the carcinogen anthanthrene. Since the cream ingredients themselves encourage the formation of a rash, these manufacturers are ensuring that there will be a perpetual demand for their product!
